The most long lasting method of removing unwanted hair is laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is a mechanism that is based on the attraction of laser light to melanin, or pigment. The melanin in a hair follicle attracts the energy from the laser to destroy the hair and stun the follicle. Dark, course hair responds better than fine, light hair; white hair does not respond at all to laser hair removal. Female facial hair typically responds quite well, as does the bikini area and the underarms. Another condition that responds very well to laser hair removal is beard folliculitis, or ingrown hairs. Often improvement can occur after only one treatment, but repeat treatments are encouraged to finish the course.
