Procedure: The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle’s ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, the Lumenis LightSheer™ Laser System is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively. A special contact-cooling handpiece allows the Laser Specialist to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

Anesthesia: Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option.

Length of Stay: The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.

What to expect: Mild to no discomfort following treatment. Side effects may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which indicate that it has responded to the treatment. Most patients require a series of treatments. Periodic touch-ups may be necessary.

Resuming Activities: Most people return to normal activity right away.

Duration of results: The Lumenis LightSheerâ„¢ Laser System safely and effectively destroys hair follicles over a series of treatments. Hair follicles must be treated during the active growth cycle, so all follicles will not be destroyed in a single treatment.

Risks: Side effects, if any, are minor.
